Science Experiment: Why Do Leaves Change Colour?
WHY DO LEAVES CHANGE COLOUR?

Leaves contain Chlorophyll. Chlorophyll makes the leaves green and is so dominant that it covers up all the other colours in the leaves. To figure out what colour a leaf would be without the dominant chlorophyll colour, we can separate the colours by doing this science experiment.

This experiment is very simple and you likely already have everything you need:

MATERIALS:

3 leaves (from the same tree)
Rubbing Alcohol
Jar

You know you work for a great company when an entire cubicle has been dedicated to the building of a Lego Death Star!

Thank you Dave!
What is a Computer Virus?
A computer virus, much like a flu virus, is designed to spread from host to host and can replicate itself. Similarly, in the same way that viruses cannot reproduce without a host cell, computer viruses cannot reproduce and spread without programming such as a file or document.

In more technical terms, a computer virus is a type of malicious code or program written to alter the way a computer operates and that is designed to spread from one computer to another. A virus operates by inserting or attaching itself to a legitimate program or document that supports macros to execute its code.

Charcoal Made From Human Waste Is... Surprisingly Great

Not to call you out, but you're probably taking your toilet for granted. Billions of people around the world don't have access to basic sanitation facilities, which is the root of many dire problems. One solution to the world's poop problem? Turning that waste into charcoal briquettes. File this one under "Sounds Goofy And Gross But Is Actually Brilliant."

A preacher dies, and when he gets to Heaven, he sees a New York cab driver who has more stars in his crown.
He says to an angel, "I don't get it. I devoted my whole life to my congregation. Why did the taxi driver get more stars than me?"
The angel says, "We reward results. Did your congregation always pay attention when you gave a sermon?"
The preacher says, "Once in a while someone fell asleep."
The angel says, "Right. Well, when people rode in this guy's taxi, they not only stayed awake, but they usually prayed!"

It Rains Diamonds on Uranus and Neptune

People often talk about it "raining money" or getting "pennies from heaven." In reality, if riches did fall from the sky, you'd be too busy running for your life to appreciate your good fortune. The 15 most recognizable abandoned sites in the Lehigh Valley
By Nick Falsone | For lehighvalleylive.com

Last year, we learned that developer David Jaindl purchased the Nazareth Speedway, marking the first significant movement on the property in close to a decade.

Little remains of the venue, which closed in 2004 after hosting racing for more than 80 years, and it remains to be seen what will become of the land.

Hidden History: Abandoned Johnstown Blacksmith Shop
EXPLORE, EXPLORE: USA

Continuing on my tour of Eastern U.S. abandoned places over the past few months, this past weekend I spent a morning up in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. This town may be familiar to you because of the famous flood of 1889 that killed over 2,200 people and decimated Johnstown and surrounding smaller towns. After a very heavy rainstorm that dropped 6-10 inches of water in May 1889, the South Fork Dam failed and 20 million tons of water rushed through the valley for 14 miles - collecting debris along the way and creating an up to 60 foot wave of water that traveled at 40 miles per hour - before it crashed into the valley wall opposite Johnstown and carried its force upstream on the Stony Creek River. Johnstown was already at flood stage from the rainstorms, and this dam water plus the 3 day fire of trapped debris that ensued made the situation catastrophically worse.

Why Do horses have hooves instead of toes?
Here's something that will never let you look at horses the same way again: a horse hoof is one giant toe. Horses evolved from animals with multiple toes, but eventually lost the extras over millions of years of evolution. But why? Research using 3D fossil scanning may have the answer.
