Mother's Day gives us the chance to show our deepest gratitude to these incredible women who have given us the gift of life.

She's cooked your meals, changed your diapers and cheered you up when you were blue, so to celebrate your mom this Mother's Day, flowers alone won't do.

It's important to remember that moms don't just want to be showered with material gifts; they yearn for moments of kindness, laughter, and love that they can forever hold in their heart. Taking the time to create a more thoughtful celebration will leave your mother radiating from within.

Try cooking mom a homemade meal, going for a nature walk or writing her a letter of appreciation. Never underestimate the power of a sincere thank you. Moms want to know that they've had a positive impact in your life, and sharing this with them is the kind of gift that money just can't buy.

Researchers Find Possible Cure to Global E-waste Problem
by David Mantey
The numbers behind smartphone waste are staggering. About 2 billion new phones are sold each year, and while many retailers, manufacturers, and waste management companies offer programs for e-waste recycling and resale, electronics still make up about 70 percent of the toxic waste in landfills. For example, according to Recode, the amount of gold currently sitting in landfills today is equivalent to about 11% of the gold mined each year.

A Soleful Way to Save the Planet
By Brittany Henneberry

Who would have guessed that you could end up wearing your old bottles of Aquafina? Some shoe companies are using recycled water bottles to manufacture footwear. Rothy's uses machines to knit shoes with thread made from old bottles. This process not only recycles three bottles per each shoe produced, but it also avoids the waste from more traditional shoemaking processes, which involve cutting pattern pieces out of cloth and leaving scraps.

The First 3D Printed Object

THINKING OUT LOUD Mind-reading headset lets you control your devices with your thoughts

By Saqib Shah
FORGET voice controls, there's a new gadget in town that lets you command digital devices using just your thoughts.

The headset, which can read the words you're picturing in your mind, sounds like something out of science-fiction but is an actual, real-life gizmo from the boffs at MIT.

The white device (dubbed AlterEgo) hooks around the ear and sits on the jawline of the face.

Tiny Injectable Chip Can Monitor Alcohol Levels in the Body
By Ryan Whitwam

Checking alcohol levels in your body usually requires a breathalyzer or a blood test. The breathalyzer is quick and easy, but they can be inaccurate. Blood tests are accurate, but you need a medical professional to draw blood and run the test. Engineers at UC San Diego are working on an alternative in the form of a tiny injectable chip. Once in place in the body, it can check alcohol levels and communicate them to an external device.

Make your own DIY Seed Bombs!
Your kids will love this craft because it's fun and messy! Once you're done, all you need to do is toss the seed bomb into an empty lot, a park strip, or any other pile of dirt, and it'll grow. Be sure to stop by again after about a month (and after it's rained a few times!) and you'll see gorgeous wildflowers growing where you dropped the bomb!

How to Make Seed Bombs

There aren't any exact measurements for this project, but if you're the recipe-following type, I'll try to put some guidelines in the instructions below for you!
