Amazon is making it easier for cable companies to add Alexa voice commands
by James Vincent

Earlier this year, Dish introduced a new feature that let customers control their DVR using Amazon's Alexa. That meant being able to search for specific shows and load up apps like Netflix, all by using voice commands via an Echo or Echo Dot. Now, Amazon is offering up the same back-end functionality to all developers. Meaning — hopefully — that a lot more cable companies will add support for Alexa voice control in the future.

The Real Reason Behind The Colors At The Bottom Of Toothpaste
By Callum Henderson
We all owe something to our parents. I'm a dentist's child through and through. I floss religiously, I brush every tooth efficiently (back and forth for molars, little circles for the canines and incisors) and I was wearing some form of retainer until the age of 20. My childhood home was half dental surgery, so my formative years were replete with the whirring of drills and the scrape of probes. Music to my ears.

This Beautiful New Jersey Park Has An Unexpected, Chilling Past
by Kristen Koennemann

New Jersey is home to countless beautiful parks, but only a handful have dark, disturbing histories. If you're into scary stories and pretty places, you'll definitely want to learn more about Skillman Village.

In 1898, the New Jersey State Village for epileptics was founded.

It was originally established to be a supportive atmosphere where patients could thrive. It became a self-contained city with educational facilities, a theater, working farm and more.

But the center had a dark secret - eugenics and forced sterilization.

By JENNIFER EARL CBS NEWS May 29, 2017, 3:05 PM

Bill Lee Eblen was propped up in his hospital bed recovering from a recent bout with pneumonia when he cleared his throat to ask a nurse if he'd be healthy enough to meet his goal.

"What's your goal?" the nurse asked.

"To be her 'something blue' on her wedding day," the 92-year-old replied, pointing to his 30-year-old niece, Alison Ferrell, who was standing in the corner.

This vintage pair of Apple sneakers is being auctioned off for $15,000
BY Dani Deahl

Apple dabbled in making clothing once upon a time. From the mid-‘80s through the early ‘90s, the brand catered to their fandom with the most exquisitely time-frozen clothing and accessories, in campaigns full of oversized sweatshirts, popped collars, and a whiff of American Psycho. One of the most coveted items Apple produced during this time was a pair of branded sneakers, which Heritage Auctions is planning to list on eBay on June 11th with a cool starting price of $15,000.

The Five Pens

A computer nerd likes to keep five pens in his shirt pocket. The pens are of five different colors and their caps, seen below, are of the same five colors but not a single cap is correctly situated on its colored pen! Given the visible arrangement below and the following clues, can you determine the order of each colored pen?

• The black pen is next to the pen with the blue cap.
• The green pen is two pens away from the black pen.
• The red and blue pens are not adjacent.
• The yellow pen is second from the left.

A Group of Engineers on A Plane Discover It Was Built By Their Students:

A group of Engineering professors were invited to fly in a plane. Right after they were comfortably seated, they were informed the plane was built by their students.
All but one got off their seats and headed frantically to the exits in maniacal panic.
The one lone professor that stayed put, calmly in his seat, was asked: "Why did you stay put?"
"I have plenty of confidence in my students. Knowing them, I for a fact can assure you this plane will never even start."

What's the Difference Between a Street and an Avenue?
by Zachary Berry

Take a moment to think of the name of the road you live on. Or is it even a road? Perhaps it's a "lane" instead, or a "boulevard," or an "avenue."

In the United States alone, there are a total of 156 street suffixes, each recognized by the United States Postal Service. This list ranges anywhere from "Alley" to "Way," and everything in between. Read more →

If You Notice A Beautiful Purple Thing On The Sand This Summer, Run Away Immediately
Anyone headed to beaches along the eastern coastline this summer is being advised to keep a lookout for any Portuguese man-of-war both in the water and on the beach.

The jellyfish relatives have been found washed ashore on a number of popular beaches, with the most recent sightings around the Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina areas.

As beautiful and exotic as the Portuguese man-of-war may appear, it poses a big risk to human health and wellness.
